The location near the San Juan Mountains means there are plenty of spots to reach soaring elevations while admiring some of the most impressive landscapes in all of the United States.
Speaking of the San Juan Mountains, if you explore it deeper you’re going to discover Mr. Sneffels. This trail is reserved exclusively for hikers with plenty of years of experience under their belt. Also, strongly consider bringing along a hiking stick. It encompasses about six miles round trip and it is known for its snowy peaks, the sprawling meadows, and the vivid flowers that make it appear as though you were in the middle of the Alps versus the Rocky Mountains.
Mt. Sneffels is part of a larger area referred to as Mount Sneffels Wilderness of Uncompahgre National Forest. To access the trail you’re going to need to head over to Yankee Boy Basin which is itself a highly scenic experience well-known for its incredible display of wildflowers during the summer season.
Though it is intended strictly for experienced hikers, Mt. Sneffels is just one of many trails open to the public, many of which are better suited to beginners. If you have questions, we’d be happy to recommend some of these during your stay.
