If you’ve happened to notice the Ouray County Courthouse as of late, you may have spotted some construction currently going on. The courthouse is currently undergoing work intended to restore the building and keep it closer in line with modern times without taking away any of the qualities that have made it so historic. Some of the work expected to be done will concentrate on courthouse foundation improvements, brick exterior restoration, as well as improvements to the landscaping and sidewalk.
Back when it was first built in December of 1888, the Ouray County Courthouse involved a cost of about $20,000 to build, which translates to roughly $600,000+ today when taking inflation into account. A number of the furnishings that were used when the courthouse was first built are still in use today including vaults, desks, and safes.
Should everything go according to plan, work on the Ouray County Courthouse is tentatively scheduled to be complete in March of next year.
