Ouray Hiking Trails for Everyone

ouraysightsPreviously we mentioned how hiking is one of the many exciting activities available for you to do in Ouray. Whether you prefer to call it trekking, the San Juan Mountains are waiting for you to explore the numerous trails. We’ll be exploring a couple in today’s blog.

For those that are just getting started with hiking, Box Cañon Waterfall & Park is a great place to start. This wonder of geology is found near Canyon Creek and is truly a sight to behold. As for the “box” portion, it has been deemed a protected habitat by the National Audubon Society and it is also home to the endangered Black Swift Bird. This hike can be completed in as little as fifteen minutes but you’re probably going to want to stop a few times to snap some pictures.

The Perimeter Trail is slightly more challenging, considered to be a moderate trek that will take you substantially longer to complete (about two and a half hours minimum). The trail is six miles long and will take you through scenic sights such as Cascade Falls, the Potato Patch, and more.

For adventurous and experienced hikers, Old Horsethief Trail is a four to five-hour trek beginning roughly 100 yards north of the Ouray Visitor Center. Hikers will visit Skyrocket Creek and Bridal Veil Creek before revealing various mines.
