In 2003, a trio of musically talented individuals named Jeffrey Stein, Perry Smith, and John Storie joined forces to create the New West Guitar Group (NWGG). Ever since they met as students at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, the group has achieved notable recognition and has performed countless shows in various parts of the world including Germany, Japan, and more.
NWGG saw early success when it came in first place after performing at the University of North Texas Jazz Festival at Addison in 2004. Shortly thereafter, the group recorded and released its debut album Introducing: New West Guitar Quartet which was released through Flora Records, a USC Thornton School of Music label. The group rode its wave of success into the following years, representing USC during the Aichi Expo held in Nagoya, Japan.
Since their debut, NWGG has released six more albums, the most recent being Send One Your Love released in 2015. The group will be bringing their mix of musical guitar stylings to the Wright Opera House next month when they perform on Saturday, May 26, at 7:30 pm. Tickets for adults are only $20.
