Famous Movie Scenes Shot in Colorado

ouraycourthouseHave you ever watched a film and then had a moment of deja vu when you happened to see a scene from it in real life? It’s probably happened to everyone at some point. For locations that create sweeping drama, few states match the visual appeal of Colorado. Hence, it remains a highly popular choice when scouting filming locations.

We’ll begin with our home here in Ouray. Back in 1969, the late John Wayne starred in a classic western film called True Grit which won him an Academy Award. If you’ve seen the film, you may have recognized the Ouray County Courthouse which was featured in the film.

Since we’re on the subject of westerns, the New Sheridan Hotel over in nearby Telluride also has its place in film history. It was featured in the 1969 Academy Award winning film Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

Explore northwest of Telluride in Mesa County and you’ll be traveling along a portion of the same route Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis did during their ill-fated trip in Thelma and Louise.

This update is provided by The River’s Edge Motel Lodge & Resort. You’ll find five unique types of Ouray Colorado hotels at our location on the banks of the Uncompahgre River, and every single room has a view of the mountains.
