Discover The Beaumont Hotel

beaumontBy now you’re aware of just how many historic sights there are to see in and around Ouray, Colorado. For those planning on doing some sightseeing during their stay, may we present The Beaumont Hotel, yet another piece of classic Colorado that’s been around for more than 100 years!

Built way back in 1886, The Beaumont Hotel was constructed by The Ouray Real Estate and Building Association. Amusingly, the project cost $75,000 which may seem ridiculously inexpensive, without adjusting for inflation of course. Upon its completion on December 15 and subsequent grand opening on July 25, 1887. the hotel quickly emerged as one of the grandest of its kind in all of Colorado. Its fusion of architectural styles such as Victorian and Queen Anne were a sight to behold and it remains so to this day. Today, The Beaumont Hotel is listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places.

The Beaumont Hotel became famous for a number of reasons. Its grand staircase leading into the lobby is one notable feature, and so is the rosewood dining room occupying a large portion of the hotel’s second floor. Perhaps most notably, however, is The Beaumont Hotel status as one of the first buildings in the country to boast alternating current electricity. The hotel also hosted major political figures such as Herbert Hoover and Theodore Roosevelt, the 31st and 26th Presidents of the United States, respectively.
