For those of you without plans for the weekend looking for something to do, the Wright Opera House right here in Ouray welcomes you to check out some performance art this Sunday, September 30th courtesy of the Zikr Dance ensemble. The company will be performing its “Runes” show which concentrates on an ancient European alphabet said to be magical, often used for prophecies and divination. The performance will feature a cyr wheel plus a grandiose set incorporating monolithic structures as well as the work Zikr Dance has become so well-known for.
In case you’ve never heard of Zikr Dance, the ensemble is recognized for its broadly varied array of works showcasing dance rituals from various different ancient cultures around the world. In addition to these historical works, the company also performs its own original and modern dance realizations. Zikr Dance seeks to provide a performance experience focused around spiritual atonement for its performers as well as the audience through education and engagement. It also aims to promote a greater understanding of multi-cultures and greater spiritual tolerance.
Tickets for the Zikr Dance’s “Runes” performance cost $25 for adults or $5 for students and those 18 and under. The show begins at 2 pm.
