The Sherbino Theater in Ridgway is known for welcoming independent or local musical acts. Last year, we highlighted a few of them and this year we’re maintaining the tradition of telling you about some of the acts you can check while you’re staying in Ouray. This time around, the musical act is the pair known by the curious name of Growling Old Men.
Comprised of guitarist John Lowell and mandolin performer Ben Winship, Growling Old Men both do vocals as they perform a mixture of acoustic Americana and bluegrass. The music is presented through set list made up of original, obscure, and classic tunes that are frequently changed during each performance. The band has gained fame as a festival staple and they have appeared at noteworthy events such as the Vancouver Folk Festival, Telluride and the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival, and the Shetland Folk Festival.
You can check out Growling Old Men at the Sherbino on January 30th at 7 pm. Tickets are just $18. If you have some free time, get out there and support the pair as well as all of the other independent acts making great music.
