The day has officially arrived, ladies and gentlemen! The Ride the Rockies event officially kicked off on Saturday, bringing together over 1,700 cyclists looking to test their skill across more than 400 miles at over 32,000 feet of elevation.
Ride the Rockies takes places every year and brings together people from all over the world setting their sights on conquering Colorado’s Rocky Mountains for a seven day period. This year, riders departed from the San Luis Valley Basin’s Alamosa and will conclude their trip at Salida, a river town. The seven-day trip will include plenty of beautiful farm country plus a demanding climb across the Sawatch and San Juan ranges.
This year’s event marks the first time the town of Ridgway is serving as a host community. Durango and Pagosa Springs, Montrose, and our home Ouray are also among the list of host communities. In fact, The River’s Edge Motel Lodge & Resort is the host hotel for riders passing through Ouray, and we’re very proud to be a part of the event!
