Now that spring is here, it is a fantastic time to consider a biking trip around the San Juan Mountains and the various natural landscapes that surround Ouray. The dirt roads are a great way to explore some of the less traveled paths while enjoying a hearty ride and the wonderful ambiance.
One of the best and safest ways to go biking in Colorado is by taking advantage of the Ridgway Area Trail (RAT) System. Implemented in 2004, the trail includes epic rides including biking through the foot of Mount Sneffels, the Dallas Creek Trail, Highway 550, and more. Best of all, there are multiple routes that can be taken depending on your experience and how long of a bike ride you’re looking to enjoy.
The Portland Trail is short but intense and it is only four miles long but it will take about two hours to complete. The Dallas Creek Loops is a longer option while the Imogene Pass / Last Dollar Road Loop is strictly for those seeking a challenge. The River Road, Ouray to Ridgway & Back is not only easy it is also scenic and will take you through beautiful ranch lands and stunning cliffside views.
