Back before there were services like Spotify or even records, CDs, and cassettes, there were limited ways to enjoy the magic of a symphony. You either had to visit a concert hall or you took the time to learn how to perform the music yourself, albeit with fewer instruments. To create the feel of an orchestra, it wasn’t uncommon to bring along a partner to play in a “four-handed” manner, which simply involved two people sitting side by side while they performed.
This four-handed approach is the one used by pianists Susan Ellinger and Adam Cohen. Susan Ellinger has performed extensively as both a solo musician and a chamber artist. Her experience and musical skills have earned her recitals in some of the most prestigious venues and locations including Harvard University, Oberlin Conservatory, and Carnegie Hall, to name a few. Since 2012. Ellinger has served as the Artistic Director at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts based in Paonia, Colorado. Adam Cohen is the son of legendary singer-songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Leonard Cohen. Adam Cohen has released four albums, the most recent being We Go Home in 2014.
Susan Ellinger and Adam Cohen will bring their musical talents to the historic Wright Opera House tonight at 7:30. It should be a fun event and definitely a showcase of some truly incredible musical virtuosity!
