Are you the type of person that likes to express their creative muscles through mediums of art? If so, you’ll want to pay close attention. Artist and mosaicist Carol Newman will be teaching a contemporary mosaic art class this Saturday over at 610 Arts Collective in neighboring Ridgway.
For those unfamiliar with mosaic, it involves a piece of art or an image made from assembling numerous small pieces of materials such as stone or colored glass. Most mosaics are made using pieces of glass or stone called tesserae, each piece having different colors. For floor mosaics, they typically use small and rounded pieces of stone, perhaps better known as “pebble mosaics”. Today’s modern mosaics use a variety of different materials including beads, glass, or even shells to create distinctive pieces of art.
Those of you that wish to try your hand at mosaic art, the class being taught at 610 Arts Collective will involve techniques on cutting and design templates. All class materials and tools will be provided so there is no need to bring anything except your willingness to learn and be creative. The class is open to adults as well as teenagers. Tuition is $100.
