It’s often said that participating in physical activity is a great way to relieve stress and deal with many of the curveballs life throws at you. Exercise can help with easing worries, reducing anxiety, and keeping the body in good shape. A recent CNN article tells the story of a woman who also used physical activities as a way to deal with her addiction.
The woman began smoking marijuana during her early 20s and soon moved on to harder drugs including cocaine as a way to deal with traumas from her past. After a run-in with the law, she remembered a time she went ice climbing which, she says, helped her feel joy “for the first time in my life” without having to resort to the use of drugs.
After turning to ice climbing, the woman decided to focus on that and today, she continues to practice ice climbing while perfecting her skills enough to become one of the instructors of one of the various clinics held at Ouray Ice Park. With its practically worldwide appeal and ability to cater to people of all skill levels, the park is worth visiting.
