The winter season is still several months away, but with these toasty temperatures, it can’t come soon enough for some of us. For those of you that have never been to Ouray or don’t know much about it, the city is the perfect playground for those who wish to experience a piece of nature. With that in mind, may we present to you Ouray Ice Park.
Ouray Ice Park is a well-established ice climbing facility boasting more than 180 ice and mixed climbing routes in an ambiance that’s all about having fun. It is located within the Uncompahgre River Gorge but contrary to popular belief, it is not in the Box Canyon which has its own sights to explore. Despite being in a gorge where the temperatures remain chilly, the majority of the ice is manmade. There are however a couple of climbs that are largely natural and have been around well before Ouray Ice Park opened its doors in 1992.
One of the best reasons to visit Ouray Ice Park is that there is no cost to visit! Parking and climbing are free, but you can always chip into keeping this attraction up and running by purchasing an optional annual membership.
