- Remember the television series MacGyver? MacGyver’s grandfather Harry lived in Ouray, and it was featured prominently as the backdrop in the first season episode, “Target MacGyver”.
- He was born in Kansas City, but famous baseball pitcher Howard Ellsworth “Smoky Joe” Wood grew up in Ouray. Smoky Joe played for the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians.
- The 1987 American sports drama Over the Top starring Sylvester Stallone features the downtown Ouray area in its opening scene.
