Colorado’s biking trails are some of the best in the entire country. No other state has biking trails that loop around mountains, go through gorgeous forests, and run alongside rivers. When you visit Ouray, make sure to bring your bike.
Ouray sits next to a huge, 20-mile trail system called the Ridgway Area Trails, or the RAT. The RAT has trails on both sides of Highway 550 and at the foot of the gorgeous Mount Sneffels. When you bike on the RAT, you’ll be able to see gorgeous forests and mountains that you can’t see anywhere else. It’s a great escape from loud cities and stressful duties.
The RAT has trails for people at all different skill levels. The Portland Trail is the easiest and shortest one, at four miles long. It takes one to two hours to complete. The hardest trail, the Imogene Pass, can take up to ten hours! You’ll need to take a shuttle back to the start, because you’ll be exhausted from climbing a 13,100 feet high pass. As you can see, the RAT is great for everyone, from beginners to experts.
You’re missing out if you visit Ouray without biking. The RAT is a huge, comprehensive trail system that makes Ouray shine.
